American Lake Gardens
American Lake Gardens is home to Tacoma’s oldest and largest equestrian community. Six barns provide stabling for more than 200 horses and over 350 residents enjoy horseback riding at these facilities.
Riding On Joint Base Lewis-McChord
We ride on Joint Base Lewis-McChord by permission of the military. You MUST have a range pass and call (253) 967-6277 every time you access a training area, with the exception of riding as part of a WHC permitted activity/hunt. The Joint Base Lewis-McChord Range Complex rests on 64,000 acres of land, broken down into 32 separate training areas. 21 of the Training Areas are at times open for civilian recreational use that does not conflict with military operations.

Range Operations operates the Area Access Office to issue permits and grant non-training access to the Range Complex. Area Access is located in Building 4074, at the intersection of Stryker and Kaufman Avenues, Main Post JBLM. The telephone number is (253) 967-6277.

How to get a Range Pass:
- YOU MUST call ahead (253) 967-6371 and make sure someone will be at Range Control to issue your Range Pass.
- Go to The JBLM Visitor Center (Exit 120 off I-5) to get a gate pass to access the base. Bring your: Valid vehicle registration, Proof of current vehicle insurance and Valid driver’s license.
- From I-5, take exit #120, JBLM Lewis Main Gate. - Stop at the Visitor Center to get a pass, if necessary (requires: Enhanced driver's license, registration & proof of insurance) -
- Make sure everyone with you has a current valid photo ID.
- Show your gate pass and driver’s license at the gate and drive over to Range Control in Building 4074. Directions: From the Visitor Center, turn RIGHT onto 41st Division Dr (drive approx. 1 mile to the third traffic light-Pendleton Ave) - At Pendleton Ave, just past the PX turn RIGHT (drive approximately 1.25 miles) - Turn LEFT onto Kaufman Ave. Drive approx. 0.5-0.75 miles. - Range Control, building 04074 is on the RIGHT. You can click on the map below for a printable map. (Most people won’t know where “Range Control” is, if you have to ask for directions)
- Take your license and registration in to Range Control and they’ll give you a new Range Pass. One for you and one for your vehicle. If you have your old pass to turn in, it will be even quicker!

Woodbrook Stables, owned by hunt club members Jenn Getty and Kerry Flaherty, is a historic equestrian center located at 6416 105th Street SW, Lakewood, WA. It is next door to the Woodbrook Hunt Club and Starfire Show Jumping. The facility features a 5,000 square foot all-weather outdoor arena, a newly constructed covered area, stalls with automatic waterers and mud-free turnout areas.

Starfire Show Jumping is located at Horseland Farms in Lakewood at 6420 150th Street SW. Starfire offers coaching, training, boarding and select sales. They also conduct a winter show series at Donida Farms, called Jumpernite. Starfire is operated by hunt members Tami Masters and Jennifer Hansen.
